Wondering if pond metrix has more surface area than reef safer dry rock?

Thinking about a gollon this for a new build in the sump just wondering if there is any benefit over dry rock,
I am thinking space wise it would be better,

No clue but if you don't want a lot of rock in the display just throw in some marine pure in your sump.
