I currently have a yellow, blue, and sailfin tang in my 150 gallon tank.

Going to my LFS today to potentially pick up a yellow eye kole, two spot bristletooth/blue eye, convict, flame fin tomini, and orange shoulder.

I think the addition of a group will help with potential aggression issues, but wanted to see if there are other concerns that I should consider prior to making this addition.

I've read varying reports about convicts ONLY being successful with it's own kind?

Thanks in advance!

The only concern is the sailfin outgrowing your tank. Those tangs you listed are on the peaceful side but I heard the yellow can get bossy but with that many tangs it shouldn't be a problem. I've tried convicts twice and both have died in my qurantine tank. Trying another convict this time from bluezoo aquatics. Hoping that one will make it.

following as well since I currently have a blue hippo and purple in my 125 gallon tank. I want to add another but my fish guy said 2 tangs are good in the 125?

Too many in a 150, also convict tangs are really aggressive as far as tangs go, another thing is orange shoulder tangs get huge, like 12" same with your blue tang( regal)

Hope I didn't go too tang police on you.
lol

@Wick , I wouldn't stress too much about being short 25 gallons on what's typically recommended. As long as you have good flow in the tank and a good mix of rock work and swimming lanes, you'll be fine.

Even with my Sailfin, I think the recommended size is a 180, but I've had my sailfin for months without any issues. Loves to swim against the powerheads flow.

My concern in aggression within the tank when introducing new tangs. I wanted to see if anyone out there in the R2R community had any success with introducing and keeping a varied amount of tangs.

Thanks! I want to try and find a good balance and keep all tank mates happy.

For the Orange shoulder, I see varying articles on recommended tank size. LA states 180 and then Salt Water Fish lists 90 gallons.

no doubt, I have a 3k icecap and another power head at 1k on the other side.

To many in a 150, There will be aggression espeicially with the same body types & you may end up with some dead fish. Of course you could get lucky but I have a 185 & would never put that many tangs in it. Hope your planning on getting a bigger tank in the near future.

Purple and/or Naso tang

I wouldn’t put a Hippo or a Sailfin in a 150 by itself..,,,. So I guess just keep adding and hoping for the best, and figure out what “Plan B” is when things go south.....

Thanks for the input @Dragon52

With what I have and what I'm considering, what would you feel comfortable in adding and why?

What's funny is that when I introduced the sailfin, it was the yellow that was initially aggressive towards it. Right now the 3 of them get along really well.

I would think they it would end after some time personally from what ive read also. ( no experience besides what I have said) also heard acclimation boxes work well for tangs when adding new to the tank.

they sure do pick a lot! what about if you feed them more then once a day ( that's what I do in the morning) would that help him out since they should be fat and happy? I had GHA all in my tank and when I added them back with my lawnmower blenny no more GHA in my tank.

It was probably more of the Lawnmower, not sure if tangs eat GHA, mine never have. keeping them fat & happy is good but you can never know with fish. You may get lucky like some people have but there are more horror stories then lucky ones.

I hear ya but I just cant see the lawnmower chowing down on as much as I had in that tank for such a short period of time. Maybe just lucky in that aspect
IMO/E, 8 tangs is way too many in a 150...
I think unless I read it wrong but he was asking about adding an additional one to the 150 to total 4. Nice to see someone else close to home on here!
