I’m planning a modification to my Reefer 170 sump. I want to add a fleece roller and remove the filter socks. I think the aquamaxxx RS-170 is the easiest roller to add to a 170. This means the ATO tank needs to go. Would like thoughts/critique on my plans:

I’m looking into an acrylic transparent tank to fit to the left of the sump (see picture). I’m thinking a 4.25” W x 14” L x 7.5” H tank with a removable lid. I have a Tunze ATO (3155?) with pump to move RODI water to sump as needed. I need to move my dosing pump to the top of the cabinet. I will place the dosing chemicals (Red Sea A, B, C and NoPox) on the lid of the new ATO tank. I’m a little concerned about how I will fill the new ATO, given my experience with existing system this will be almost daily. Thinking maybe a small container with handle, spout a flexible hose to pour water into the ATO tank. The system is in a location where spilling is an issue.

Does this make sense? Suggestions would be appreciated.

Have you done the upgrade? Pics?

I did the same thing. I replaced the filter sock in my 170 sump with the Clarisea SK-5000. I cut out the sock holder and all the glass from that 1st compartment then took a grinder to the acrylic of the filter till it fit. I wasn't using the stock ATO anyways so I didn't have to rethink any of that.
