Hey everyone,

I am a freshwater guy at the moment looking to start my first reef tank. I'm a little tight on space at the moment in my house so i thought i would go with a smaller all in one set up. What are your thoughts/concerns on the 29g biocube for a newbie like myself?

All input would be great thanks!

I run a biocube 14 and love it. I have done mods to the lights and filtration. Other then that easy to maintain with small water changes a couple times per week.

Love my biocube! I've had it for a year and a half and couldn't be more happy.

Do you run a skimmer at all? And why did you upgrade the filtration? Do you have any pictures of your set up i can see?

Well lets see, I modified a reefbreeder led to fit in the factory hood, added a reefkeeper controller, added a media basket to the rear, added a light for the fuge area for cheato, removed rear access cover and added fans, the list goes on...but in all reality none of it was really needed, I just like tinkering.

I owned the 29 Biocube 5 years. The Nuvo filter system and glass are better. I do like the easy access to the Nuvo. The Biocube does come with lighting unlike the Nuvo, plan on spending a additional 300 for good lighting. The curved edges on the Biocube are a pain to clean.

I've had a 12g nanocube for 5 years and love it. I added Steve's LEDs and mounted the lid above the tank. I added a phosban reactor.

I have no problem cleaning the curved edges on my tank. They make a algae magnet designed for it. I don't use it personally so can't elaborate on it's performance but I do use the two little fishes nano algae magnet and that works great especially with tight spots between rockwork and the glass.

I love my biocube, but depending on what you are wanting to keep in it you will have to upgrade certain components. What are your plans on coral, and livestock?

I had a biocube and I loved it. I did add a media basket with filter floss and chaeto for filtration, a small skimmer and a wavemaker to add flow, but otherwise I left it as I bought it. Zoas, RBTA, finger leather mystery flexible thing coral, rose coral, and ricordeas all flourished under the stock lights. I had 4 fish and all were fat and happy (:

im not to sure as of yet on what i really want to put in it. Im still in the phase of shopping around and research. I just really like the all in one idea and the fact that its not a huge tank since i am a little tight on space right now.

I am a SW/Reef newbie and started my first tank (Biocube 29G) back in Sept. 2014. I am enjoying it but it is definitely a love/hate relationship. :-)

I like the Biocube because it is all enclosed and has a clean appearance. No skimmers or filters exposed. My only complaints would be that the fans are loud, the lighting could be better, and I don't like how water pours out of the lid and down the back sometimes when I open it.

I originally had it set up based on the filter modifications of ReefThuz on YouTube. Check out his videos if you haven't already. I have since replaced the filtration with an inTank Media Basket and a Tunze 9001 skimmer. Both in the middle chamber. I also have a Hydor Koralia Nano 425 pump. I'm almost thinking I need two. I also have a Coralife mini UV sterilizer that I run occasionally and a Cobalt Aquatics 75W heater and added two more blue LED strips.

Here is a full tank shot. Sorry it isn't the greatest.

Good luck with your adventure!
