Hey All

So I got bummed out today. Still in the process of getting the new aquarium setup and today was plumbing day. So everyone knows the details its a 75G tank, trigger 39 sump and 16 inch shadow overflow. So I ordered my pvc, 45's and 90's from BRS and decided to get the cepex 1.5 ball valves. The bummer was the the Cepex ball valves are to big to connect right off the overflow so I had to use unions. I would of relocated the ball valves but space is an issues because of the sump size. Attached is a picture of how I plumbed it. Anyone think that this will cause problems in the future? I did get threaded unions and the reason I did that is so that if the seal does break / wear out I can unscrew it and pop in a new one.

Thanks in advance

Maybe I’m missing something..

As the pictures suggests, I’m assuming you decided to forgo installing the valve? It looks like you have reducers coming off the overflow. The Cepex ball valves come with unions. With just a 5” piece of 1.5” pvc, you could’ve installed the ball valve before the reducer.

Based on my limited understanding of and experience with plumbing, it will still function, albeit without the ability to fine tune the siphon. You’ll likely have some noise and your two additional drains will essentially function as redundant emergency drains.

Yes originally I was going to go with the ball valve then attach the reducer. The sump has 1 inch drain's and the overflow comes with 1.5

Well you’re going to want to leak test it anyway. Fill the bad boy up and turn on the pump. If the noise is unbearable, you’ll find a way to redo it with the valve. If not, I can’t think of a reason it would be less fail-safe than a setup with the valve.
