Thread like mass

I am starting a new aquarium and just added live sand 2 days ago. The live rock that is in the aquarium was already established by its former owner so that is not at all new. However I now have this strange little hairy creature that is about three quarters of an inch long on topon top of the new sand. Would anyone know what this is?

P.S. the salinity is perfect and I am retesting my water tomorrow. In addition I only turned on the LED light for the picture. There are no fish currently in the tank as I adjust it for life forms.

Welcome to R2R! Not sure on what it is, could be a sponge mass that came off your rock. Can you get a clearer picture possible? I'm a firm believer in the when in doubt take it out, so I'd jet it and get better pictures in a container.
