Throwing in the towel?

Ugh, what a horrible thing to happen.

Thanks for sharing your story and keep us informed as you figure out what happened. It's more important for folks to share the stories about when things go wrong so we can all learn from it, as hard as it is to put bad news out there.

If you are dosing with prime that ammonia reading is not accurate. It is probably lower. You need to test with a SeaChem test so you are only measuring free ammonia.

I understand that, but testing for total ammonia is what I'm going for to be able to predict the nitrite and nitrate spike that will follow

I'm pretty sure all the ammonia has been processed, and I haven't checked since Saturday. It was about 0.25 when I checked it then. I ran the kalk through the ato (as I should have been doing all along) instead of dripping it straight from the bucket. There seems to be just a little dino hanging around still, but should be completely gone within 2 weeks.

This hobby can through you into fits! You put all your hard work, money, and time in this hobby to have it kick you in the teeth in return. But the beauty of it when things are going right are glorious... Plus chicks like it. ;)

One corner of the tank had a little bit of algae on the sand so o went to stir it around with the scraper today. I stuck the scraper to the sand and it wouldn't budge. I found out about 1/8 of the sand had made concrete. In some places it went all the way through to the bottom of the tank. I found where the precipitation went lol. I broke up all of it I could reach easily and put it back.

It finally settled down after a few days. I have added a few flasher wrasse and have some fish and corals coming tomorrow. Hopefully everything goes well after this

Well I kinda figured since it had a big ammonia spike it would be s good time to throw a bunch of fish in there to utilize the boost in bacteria.

I don't know how I missed your last post! How is your tank doing now?

It still has some brown stringy junk in it, but has improved drastically over the past week for some reason. I have had a couple frags die since the last post but overall I would say it's fair. It's still testing my patience.
