Can we also get some more details about how you are caring for them?

I used to have one. I never had any luck with it though.

Definitely tillandsias, without direct photos can't tell you which species. The key is humidity in my experience. If I bring them inside and try to water them they don't do that well, if I leave them outside in FL humidity I don't have to do anything with them whatsoever. I imagine being over the tank is the perfect location indoors.

Tillandsia Ionanthas.

I used to have one. I never had any luck with it though.

I soak in RO/DI water for 20 minutes once every week (same time as I do my water changes). That's it. They need indirect light. Keep them out of saltwater.

Congrats, Tigahboy, on your newfound fame! The Reef Hobbyist Magazine folks haven't publicly posted the new issue yet, so I'm gonna have to hold my breath while I wait! I love what you're doing with macroalgae, it's such a novel mashup of the reef and freshwater aquascape worlds!

Thinking about doing a 120 planted, used to have a full mixed reef in this 120, but want to do something much easier and focused on creating a great environment for mandarins.

Do you have any tips for this 120? I’ll be starting completely new. Looking for a laid back, hands off type experience.

It’s a deeper tank than I’d prefer for this (24”), so I’ll want to keep my arms out of it as much as possible. Thinking I should go for slower growing macros

Thank you! I think trimming is going to be the most labor intensive aspect of keeping a macroalgae tank (of any size). I'd check your nutrient levels as well to see if you need to supplement via dosing (which is what I do).

Caulerpa prolifera would be a nice addition b/c they have decent sized blades and not terribly hard to remove if they are growing in places you don't want them. Some of the thicker rooted halimeda would be nice for that size tank as well (and doesn't grow crazy fast). I've never kept it myself, but sea grass would be cool for that size tank. Sargassum would add nice height as well, but they are not as easy to keep long-term. Gracilaria hayi would be a nice addition for an easy to keep red macro.

Love the lone mermaids cup! I used to have countless ones before I got bubble algae and bryopsis and purchased an emerald crab. The last algae he ate were the bubble algae.
Are you able to keep any crabs for nuisance algae?

No crabs. The only pincers nuisance algae sees in my tanks are my fingers pretending to be crab claws when I pluck them out by manually.
