Hello all,
I bought these guys as a "pair" for a good price and am keeping them in my pico. Anyone have any tips/tricks for these two?
I plan on keeping water at 78 degrees as an experiment with two sets of frags I just got as well.
Any info appreciated! All I can find is what they do when paired and HOW to pair them :/

That's basically all you need to know, besides a variation of food and good water quality.
Any pics of that pico?

Because my new coral frags come tomorrow morning!!

Almost done! Waiting for the frags to open then pics galore!

Well I believe the goby was eaten :(
I rearranged some things in there to clean and he's gone. So now it's just the pistol.

...now what?

My YWG disappears for days..some times a week at a time..then he just showes back up... still waiting on LFS to get my pistol..

How is that even possible....theres only one rock LOL
The second day I saw him and then nothing. Does anyones pistol snap ALL the time once the lights go out?

Pistol shrimps and gobies can hide in the rocks. Shrimps usually snap if snails or worms get near.

hmm weird. Its only a 5 gallon tank LOL cant be too many hiding spots

Didn't know... Some how I didn't see that in your OP

Does your tank have rocks in it? How much rocks? How you removed the rocks and try to shake them? Are you observing at night when lights are out? How long would you say since the goby ate? Are your nitrate increasing? Have you tested ammonia?

OP?
no ammonia, no nitrates, a single 3 # live rock, live sand. I even sifted the sand to make sure he wasnt hiding lol Got hit by the pistol though...scared me half to death.

Have removed the rocks just to rearrange them but have not shaken, I observe during the day and during "blue light". I dont believe I have looked for him at night.

Wondering how long I should wait before I look into replacing him.

Does the tank have a lid? Do you own a cat?

Oops i just noticed your picture has a cat in the photo. Live fish can make an expensive meal for kitties :)

LOL yes, thats Alice. She LOVES watching that darn shrimp. Yes it has a lid haha both of them do. I know my cats well enough to know that they cant resist...

Before I rearranged the 25 gal tank, 3 days after her adoption lol

I have a couple of tigers that roam the carpet plains for fishies lol. Couple of things, if the lid has any openings, the fish will find it. Otherwise if you have any nassarius snails, they would have eaten his dead body. If it's an AIO tank, check the back sump area. Otherwise it could still be inside the rock. My rocks have caves and channels running through them. Plenty of area for the goby to enter one side and peak out another side. In fact when I had to move my shrimp and goby to their new home, I had to literally shake the living h** out of them so they would try to escape the rocks.

well.....there is a small opening for food. Smaller than a kitty paw...but big enough for a small fish :/
I dont have any snails in there yet.
If I get a swimming fish (ie no gobies) will the tiger shrimp kill it?

He comes straight to my feeder pipet and pops it as soon as I feed the LPS. and they are a good 5 inches from his "safe place" rock

He also knows the pipet carries food. he will pop it constantly until I release some food for him.
