Today I learned to buy a backup return pump. I hit the feed mode on my pump and when the 10 mins passed it didn’t resume and wouldn’t spin. Fortunately I still had a wave maker and i tossed in an airstone so nothing in the tank even noticed, but it took a 2 day acid bath to get it spinning again.

I now have a backup return pump for my tanks so I can rotate them in while I do maintenance on them. Yes, it‘s expensive to buy a 2nd return pump for a large tank, but it’s a lot cheaper than losing everything (and the emotional stress too).

This is a great idea to own a spare return pump. This is another reason why I usually build any large system with 2 return pumps so if one fails the second will still run on separate power supply

Totes agree. Along with a backup heater too imo. And salt. Everything else can probably wait, even lighting.
