Travetine tiles
Yep. Trying them now in my quarentine tank. Washed them in vinagar and soaked them in salt water for a week before putting them in. They have been in for 5 weeks and I think that I saw a small spot of coraline algae starting in a crevice today. I have one small cheap zoanthid and several hermit crabs and snails in the tank along with about 15 # of live rock.
Will keep you posted as to how the experiment goes.

What do you ever does in your QT tank? That will make a difference in either you have good results or not. If dosing copper it will absorb.
That is a good idea though never really thought about an entire tank like that though... Tumbled marble would work great!

I use Tumbled Marble for frag plugs ad they work great!!! You could Tubled marble tile the bottom with that an have no problems.

I also have used tumble marble for frag plugs also, but just never thought of using them as your "sandbed".... Not a bad idea for a prop system.
I'm currently using some home depot tiles for frag plugs. I did a few boiling's and scrubbings of the tiles to remove the backer glue and hopefully pull out any contaminants. So far so good, but as they're a natural stone, I'm waiting to see what happens longer term.

well my whole idea started with my current crappy sand bed.(seafloor special blend)
ill pretty much at this point never use this size sand again!
i thought about going bare bottom, but it just looks bad.
then i though huh i already have like 30 of those tiles through 3 tanks already so i know its safe, it wont collect as much detrus, but still look appealing.
they come in tons of different sizes and would look great covered in zoas, also they would be easy to frag.
