I've been thinking of adding a pair of blue jaw tilefish to my 120 build, in which all fish have been properly QT'd.

Though these fish have special needs, I really don't want to skip QT with them and have all my previous diligence go to waste.

With that in mind, can anyone share their experiences in QT'ing these fish? Particularly, I'm trying to figure out how to include sand to make them comfortable, and I'm guessing a simple small cup in the tank won't be enough to accommodate a pair.

Also, are do they have any known sensitivities to medications?

Thanks!

I've never kept one of these, but I've QT'd many fish - like wrasses- who need sand to be comfortable. I usually use a rubbermaid or ziplock plastic container with clean dry sand in it. They make do with it and are a lot less stressed. I usually run TTM and take the used sand out and replace it with new on each transfer. The old sand gets rinsed and dried thoroughly before being used again. I hope that helps! If you use TTM then you only need to run prazi for deworming to have most of your bases covered. Then observe for an additional week or two in case anything else pops up.

Tilefish are very similar to firefish/dartfish. No special requirements or sensitivities, except they like to jump. ;)

Thank you!

Just to make sure I'm clear... There is no need to include sand in the QT for them?

Meredith is right, they do like to burrow. I forgot that my Purple Tilefish would do this. Use a glass pyrex bowl and put some sand in there for him.

Totally missed your post before I replied the first time. Thanks for the suggestions!
