I know this has been discussed but cant really find any definitive concrete answers ?? I am going with a bigger tank and i want to put large ( 12 x 12 or 18 x 18 ) tiles in the bottom instead of just bare bottom glass .

what is the best tiles for this ? i know ive seen this in a few tanks in person and on forums

Thanks

I'm using black slate

I have seen people use Travertine, although @Servillius noted once the tile may darken over time. I have never used it personally. My bare bottom uses Starboard.

Never thought to use that for a bottom ?? was just looking and i think i will go with that , I can get black as i think that will be a sharp look in a 300 gallon tank !

How long have you had it in your tank ?

I have used it for the three months the 45 gallon reef tank has been up. I love it. Never miss the sand look at all. Just my opinion, of course. Before this I used it on a 6 gallon Betta tank to see how we would all like it and it worked great. I used 1/2” thick for the 45 gallon and 1/4” for the 6 gallon. There was no warping, but your tank is much larger. I could not say if you would go thicker.
