time for a new sand bed maybe

Question for you experts in here was doing some sandbed research on line and a lot of stuff says replace it every few yrs mine is almost four yrs old and was not live just some cheap white sand here is the question should I replace it with live sand and is two inches worth ok will I cause a mini cycle or is bb the way to go these days

I wouldn't remove it all, but that is because I like the look of a tank with sand. I also wouldn't take it all out and replace it. I think this will cause a mini cycle. I would get a cup or two of sand from a trusted local reefer to add some more diversity to the current sand bed.
 
As Krista stated you can remove some of it a little at a time but be very careful when removing. Best way is to siphon it out because if you stir it up you may have issues. There is a lot of nasty stuff under that sand bed. I have left mine for over 10 years without any problems.
