There is a need for a liberal amount to ensure you don't have a dry joint. squeeze out is perfectly normal, just let it dry and don't wipe it.

Also, do not mix the primer and glue together,..... to save time. The primer is made to slightly melt the PVC (that's why the PVC gets sticky) so that the glue can adhere to both parts best.

And ... my experience is to let the primer dry properly before gluing. I recently built a 2700 gallon swim spa and was surprised at a few of the leaks. I can only attribute them to gluing too quickly.

No! lol. do not let the primer dry before apply the cement.

Well, I'm no plumber. I'm trying the "dry primer" approach so I'll see how it works out. Luckily, I've found a 2 part epoxy that fixes my leaky plumbing. Maybe I should have elaborated a bit. By letting it dry, I meant for a few minutes. Wish me luck ...
