It seems it may be time to get out of the hobby, but wondering how you go about it when the tank is functioning.. I've moved the tanks once (a 180 and a 90), but that was an all comes out at once type of thing. How do you go about piecing it out, livestock first then live rock then equipment? How to catch the fish without tearing out all the rock and coral? In a perfect situation someone would buy the package (and I'd be happy to discount it if they did)

thanks,

I would make a great package deal and be done. Why are you leaving the hobby?

Your best bet is try to connect with a local club to see if you can find someone in your area to take it off your hands, trying to sell Reef related stuff in want Ads is not easy and you have to practically give the stuff away.

I am going to be selling my house, probably next summer, and traveling pretty much full time in an RV. I have a job that I allows me to work remote. I've always wanted to see other parts of the country and am at a point where I'll be able to before I'm too old to want to anymore. I would prefer that my work go to someone that can take care of it and know I won't get near what I put into it, but I didn't do it to make money, I really love the salt water tanks and all the life in it.

Agree with your decision. Retro idea is good. Also call LFS.

Craigslist

Inform local reef club via their forum

Make 8x11 sale flyer and ask all LFS to post it on their corkboard

See if a LFS wants to buy. but they'll prob offer you 10cents on the $1 if what you think it's worth

Start a blog!
Been following some of the van life, RV people on YouTube for a few years.
The BLM camping and touring the country sounds amazing!

But I like daily showers....
$20/month planet fitness membership for shower access works in town.
Truck stop membership seems to work further out. But no personal experience.

Would love to hear your experiences.
Happy trails!

Around my parts people try to sell as a whole package, but 9/10 times seem to have to part it out to sell/get rid of the tank or equipment. ( I have at times thrown out when moving perfectly good equipment because nobody wanted to buy it, and moving day came and I couldn't take it with me.)

I would try so its easier on you to sell it as a whole, if no takers, then try and sell the live stock first and once all the live stock is gone, piece out the rest.

Really boils down to local market, some markets have more demand vs others.

I am semi-shutting mine down, going fish only, tired of corals.

If there is a local reef club start there and then a LFS, start with the livestock.

I've been to several tank sales with my old local club. Most guys would be parting out the corals first and some already had the tank/equipment sold.

It was like vultures picking over a carcass for several years...

Always hate to see anyone leave hobby. Best resources are:

- Craigslist
- Loacal reef club(s)
- Facebook groups in your area
- R2R
- LFS

Some LFS's will give you a price for the setup and come pick it up and they do all the selling.

We call that " Consignment here". They take a small percentage of sale and you get the remaining funds.

Okay, I'm jealous. [emoji6]
Good luck with your new adventures!

Where do you live? Somebody here may want to adopt your tank.

Start pricing it out, CL, FB market, this forum, other forums. Take advantage of every local free to sell market

I had to get out several years ago due to illness (back in now). I just sold everything as a package as I didn't want to fuss around with it. Sure it didn't sell for as much vs parting it out, but I didn't care, just wanted it gone and quickly. I made a list of what all I had in it and what it all cost new and I was realistic in pricing it so went fast.

Also something you may want to consider while playing the life of a gypsy is to part out the livestock but if you have storage then stash the equipment. You may come back to stationary at some point and it will be there. Others already covered LFS, clubs, etc. In any case enjoy the road and time away. Safe travel.
