Any idea what these are? They are starting to spread and don't really want. Best way to get rid of them?

Palys, zoas big brothers, and they reproduce about as fast as any coral you can get.

If you can, take the rock out and pass it to the fish store. Be careful with manipulation as this carries a risk for palytoxin, that can carry risks for the fishkeeper. Please read up on this prior to proceeding.
I cannot. Nearest fish store is an hour away. Will have to find another way

Those look like “Pandora’s”.
They can be pretty invasive. I have some and every other week I have to pluck off the new ones to stop them from spreading to the nearest rock. They most likely have paly toxicans- so gloves for sure and face shield if your doing it out of water.

they get quite pretty under heavy blues- but grow way way to fast lol.
Good luck.

Think a long tweezers I can pluck them off with and NOT be in water with them? Just read an article and half scared now to mess with them lol.

Eh I've fragged zoas using a hammer and chisel (they were on a big rock) with no ill effect. By all means though, protect yourself and don't be dumb like me. Wear shoes at least for fragging, so when you get surprised by a bristle worm you don't drop a hammer on your toe.

One thing you can do is a solid coat of super glue on them. Might not be able to get them all, but it can certainly limit spread and population.

Paly toxican is real- but in my personal experience it’s not as bad as it sounds.

I’ve gotten it in my eye once and been exposed a few other time. For me- the squirt in the eye left my eye red and sore for about 2-3 days. The other symptoms have been weird taste in the mouth for a few hours - but nothing crazy and I was not wearing protection. If you use proper protection you should be good to go.

good luck my friend.

I did not want to fight with anyone today... my wife would tell me to put on gloves and put the rock in a plastic bag for disposal. So nobody hate on me, but she may be right here.

Pandoras and Mohawks are very similiar and invasive under favored conditions.

They are also zoas as I recall.

They are not known palytoxin carriers. Those bad guys are a dull green and lie closer to the rocks in denser clusters.

An injection of vinegar will make them melt if you inject the central matte.

The article below helped me a ton on fragging them. Like above mention, they look like Pandora's to me and they grow rapidly. I had some and then removed them from the tank because they would easily overtake the rockwork. Get eye protection, gloves and a well ventilated room if you plan on cutting into them.

Can get a filefish to eat them? :)
I had a bunch of similar looking palys (gold dust?) that spread like wildfire in my tank. You can see them in the picture below above the Birdsnest and all intermingled with the Forestfire Montis. I removed most manually but couldn't get to maybe 5 percent of what I originally had. Figured I'd just deal with them when they began to spread again.

Then I got two Filefish and a Klein Butterfly to deal with the aiptasia in my tank - which they did quite well. A month later I removed the Klein Butterfly because it was picking on too many corals. A couple months after that I happened to notice that the all the palys were gone. It's possible they had been gone since I removed the Klein Butterfly and I may just have not noticed. Also gone were a few zoas that I liked but it was worth it to be rid of the palys and the aiptasia.

Interestingly, whoever ate the "gold dust" palys, completely ignored the "venus fly trap" palys.

When you say removed them manually, what was that process?

Luckily, most turned out to be attached to the skeleton of a Birdsnest coral they had killed. Then a bunch were on a rock that I just removed and left out in the sun for a couple of months. I was a bit paranoid about palytoxin so I didn't want to do any scraping. I killed a few more in-tank by injecting hydrogen peroxide into the polyps but that wasn't very effective.

So tried last night to remove the rock, It's at the base of all my rock so complete tear apart to remove if I go that route. Think I am going to try to glove up and go in with a razor blade at the bases and then spread some superglue over what's left. Just make sure I'm understanding , the toxin won't hurt anything else in the tank if it releases? They are just going to overrun everything if I let them go, and I'm REALLY liking the pinks and purples from the coraline in a bottle I got :)
