Tin Removal methods

I have had an ATI ICP test result back and have elevated tin 24ug/l .
I tested my RO water and there is no Tin contamination from that.

I think I have found the source of the Tin:
Rusting Innovative Marine Gourmet Grazer magnet
2 x degrading ecotech mp40 wetsides
rusting cabinet hinges

I am addressing all of the issues but I need to remove the Tin from my tank.
I am using polyfilter as thats all that I had on hand to remove it, but it doesn' state that it removes Tin.

I don't want to use carbon if I can avoid it.

Has anybody come across an effective method of Tin removal from a reef tank?

I would get another ICP test. You will notice that ICP vendors do no guarantee accurate results. Getting a second and even third test will give you a bit more confidence in determining whether there really is a tin level issue.

Carbon only bonds to organics so wouldn’t do anything to remove metals anyway.
I’d also say get a second opinion, “high tin” is a super common “issue” on ICP tests that more often than not don’t actually cause an issue.
Also, I’m pretty sure they don’t use Tin in magnets. Tin is not magnetic in the sense that most people think of.

ATI suggested that I check for corroding magnets, so will change out the parts that I have identified.
Then do a few water changes and another ICP test and hopefully that will solve it.

Many trace metals in seawater are bound by organics, so carbon may remove some.

My X filter roller filter has failed, but I am replacing this at the end of the month.
Hopefully that and replacing the rusting items that I have found will help.

Tin has many forms that may be present in a reef aquarium, and some of them are organometallic to begin with before they even enter the water (such as organotin plasticizers of PVC):

Thanks for your help.

I'm going to change the rusting parts, do a couple of water changes and run polyfilter.
hopefully that will help to resolve the TIn issue.
I will then do another ICP test to see if it has been resolved.

I can't help to answer your question, but I am curious about this one...? Is the worry that you may be touching them then putting your hands in the tank or something?

No, I don't touch them at all really.
My cabinet doors are the soft close style.

Some salt mixes are higher in tin. What kind do you use? Tin and Lithium have been long-time salt mix "issues" although I am not sure that anybody really has ever had any real problems with either.

Skim and use some GAC - they can remove it if it binds to organics.

I'm using red sea coral pro and have done since day 1 of reefing.

If I can avoid using carbon I would like to.

My regal has HLLE and was transferred from my old tnak into my new (current) tank about 14 months ago.
I have not used carbon on the new tank and it is slowly recovering from it.

I have never found carbon to be an issue with HLLE, but to each their own. Fatty acids, vitamin A and E will help HLLE more than anything. New Life Spectrum pellets are awesome at this... and PE Mysis.

Don't worry about carbon - the skimmer can do some work. Polyfilter will remove aluminum.

New Life Spectrum pellets aren't available over here across the pond in the UK.
But I managed to import a bottle of Selcon over from the US.
I am starting supplementing the PE Mysis with it and hopefully that helps.
