Hey guys,

Help me out here. My tank has been running since december last year. I did my first ati icp test in june this year. My tin was reading arround 7.

Now I did 2 tests this month. The first was the beginning of oktober and my tin was reading 13. (Never did water changes in these months) Used 2 bags of cuprisorb and did 4 10% water changes. On my last test from today it reads 12,5

So whats up. Does anyone have an explanation why my tin wont go down?

I checked everything for rust. I did find 1 piece of live rock in my sump with rusty patches????

Could the tin still come from the glass? The tank was bought new.

Could be coming from the glass if the tank is made from float glass.
Otherwise it usually is steel rusting somewhere.
I had elevated tin at first in one of my Red Sea Reefers; it eventually went away.

That does seem pretty long. Mine was gone in about 6 months.
It's got to be coming from somewhere. Glass film or rusting metal are your two best bets.
I would try adding a polyfilter to your sump in a high flow area.

I did find this in my sump.

It really did look like rust.. but on a piece of live rock?

That pic looks like cyano
I too have been having a problem with elevated tin. It’s around 7ppb per icp. I ripped the tank apart six months ago and did not find a thing. It does not seem to be adversely affecting any of my Acros and I just sent another ICP test off. I too was never able to find the source

what salt are you using? I’m Red Sea blue bucket.

I've also had elevate tin as well as aluminum in ICP test results, and have never been able to figure out where it was coming from. Based on what I had read on R2R, I didn't see a need for immediate action, and I just lowered it through water changes over time. I do not know how long it really took to get the levels to drop, since I only do ICP tests about 4x per year, but the levels are lower now.

I recall reading that in some cases freshly mixed salt water that was sent off to ATI even reported tin.

Thats no cyano. That rock is straight from my sump wich is totally dark. And the patch is not removable. It really looked like rust.

I also found this. Not clear if its leaching through the plastic. Or if it got stuck there.

My tank also has a high tin content.
I was looking for a reason ....
Yesterday I found an open magnet in the water level sensor.

Could this be the reason?

Is it rusted or expanding it doesn't look like is to me. Check for rusted door hinges and other objects could be rusted. I had high tin reading on my ICP test before I changed hinges and plus I changed my old lights for some new ones. I got ICP back and it was 0
