The Reefer series from Red Sea recently caught my eye, and since moving we had discussed possibly making a change with the tank(s). Fast forward a few weeks and found one in inventory semi local... perfect!

We're excited to get this new tank going, we still have the 60gal Mixed Reef running at the old location, with livestock that needs to be migrated over.

This tank will be another mixed reef for us, the wife (Tina) prefers not to go colorful sticks, and with the kids (5, 6 & 12) some motion from softies will keep them entertained ... maybe we can even train them to do water changes?

Equipment:
  • Tank: Res Sea Reefer 450 w/ White Cabinet
  • Sump: included, factory
  • Light(s): 2x GHL Mitra LX 6200 HV 7206
  • Light Stand: ReefLightMounts Silver brackets
  • Return Pump: Royal Exclusiv RD3 50w 80w w/ 10v interface
  • Skimmer: Royal Exclusiv Bubble King Double Cone 180 w/ RD3
  • Flow: Tunze Nanostream 6055 & (2x) 6095
  • Controller: GHL ProfiLux 3T eX Ultimate-Set
  • RODI: Vertex Delux Puratek 100gpd (Updated with Spectrapure Membrane & filters, DI)
  • ATO: 10gal Royal Exclusiv Water Tank w/ LiterMeter3 controlled by Optical level sensor on ProfiLux
  • Doser: GHL Doser 2.1 - 4 pump
  • GHL Flow sensor
  • GHL Propeller Breeze 4 fan

Nice first post here on R2R Marco. As you always say, it didn't happen if there are no pictures. I know you have them (I've seen them) so share them here!!!

The tank was delivered on 12/14/2015, and we assembled the stand that night.

Within a few days we started to get the equipment ready, but had some delays.

I figured since we're going with the Red/White color scheme of the equipment, I may as well match the sump...

I built a temporary light stand to test light spread ... To make sure the Fishies will be happy, of course...

The light stands arrived and were promptly assembled and installed to hand the nice GHL Fixtures.

Monday this week we started making water, and slowly filling the tank.
I was able to source 1 bag of substrate from a local reefer while the remaining bags are in transit.

We're using Tropic Eden, 60lbs of Mesoflakes, 60lbs of Reefflakes for a little mix of grain sizes.

In this picture shown is 30lbs of Mesoflakes spread over egg crate:

And we're running...

I spent a few minutes this morning plumbing and mounting the RODI and giving her a filter change..

I've had to temp raise the skimmer up to proper water depth, with some PVC pipes. I'll work on building a proper skimmer stand this coming week, time allowing.
I'm thinking of CNC'ing a proper outline of the Double Cones base plate, out of acrylic or PVC if I can source a sheet local. Then build some height adjustable legs for it.

The substrate is scheduled for Monday delivery, thanks UPS for not delivering yesterday :(

Nice! I can't believe that it comes with both a bubble king and an RD3. This looks like a quality setup.

The tank has been up and running for a couple of weeks now, we moved the livestock from the 60gal cube over on Friday Jan 8th - and all has been good since. Added a few gilled family members last weekend. Pics coming soon.

Looks terrific Marco.

Dang that escalated quickly! :p

I guess I should give an update. Not terribly much has happened.

I've been able to clean up some of the wires in the sump area, mount LED under cabinet lights, and start work on cleaning up cables in the dry side of the cabinets, though didn't get very far there.

Also no longer running the ATO reservoir that came with the system, finally got around to temporarily mounting a float switch for the APEX and ATO'ing from my reservoir.

The Reservoir is a Royal Exclusiv Water Tank, holds about 35-40l, sits under the sink in cabinet in the bathroom, and is auto refilled by a TUNZE RO Water Controller 8555, dual floats and Solenoid to start/stop the RODI and run full length of tank fill.

I've been staying pretty busy with life the past couple of months, not had much time for the tank.

I got tired of looking at the PVC pipe, so I built a skimmer stand:

Looks like the skimmer is floating ...

Sometime in between all the time out of town, red slime took over...

Nice update!

Sorry for the long time no update, been very busy lately.

A few things have happened since the last update.
  • Replaced APEX with GHL ProfiLux 3.1T eX - Ultimate Set
    • Add second PB5.1
    • Add PWC card to wirelessly control Mitras Lights
    • Add Optical LevelSensor
  • Replaced DOS w/ GHL Doser 2 SA; 4 Head
  • Started Dosing 2-3 Part (Alk/Calc/Mag)
  • Built Auto Feeder that's externally controlled - via power socket.
  • rebuilt the RODI system due to scaled up membrane & clogged flow restrictor.

Cleaned the AquaDriver SCH for the first time, head was dirty, neck was still clean - as it should've been.
Performed some long overdue maintenance, started removing some of the sandbed, and did a weekly water change of 30gal 3 weeks in a row.

Today I spent some time an adjusted my Tunzes and the GHL control for them, able to make a nice offset wave that has some random to it.

Auto Feeder:

You wont regret the Profilux. I have been using one since 2009. I have never had a problem with it. Only problem might be the desire to add more to it. [emoji3]

Very nice!
