Hello,

I am new to marine reef tank keeping. My main display tank is 75 gallons with shipwreck them. It has just finished the first cycle and in a ***** stage. The tank has been up for a month now.

I am not a big tech type so my setup is simple. As I learn new things it will change as I go along.
Using a canister type filter for 75g
Reef Octopus Skimmer HOB for up to 100g
heater
2 gyro wave makers for water flow.
Led Marineland lights
live sand & live rock (used some from my 29 g bio cube)

Salt water plants are a pretty bush plant & red grape.
1 large. Mexican Turbo snail & some baby snails
3 Scarlet legged Hermit crabs
2 Pepperment Shrimp
1 Sand Star
1 Yellow Watchman
2 PJ Cardinals
1 Sun Coral orange color.
sponges on one rock along with clams or mussels of some sort. Not sure what they are.

I had a Long Nose Hawk Fish who was a tank jumper. Unfortunately he tried to fly one time too many. Even with glass top he leaped out the back where there is space for equipment. I really liked that silly fish, Mr. Hawk was one of my first marine fish that kept in the 29g.

The 29g I had for going on 4 months now. Got frustrated trying to find good equipment to fit in the tiny area for pumps n stuff. So it is now to be a quareentine tank. Got some critters in it right now that will be slowly added to the DT.
In quareentine:
1 Pink with yellow center Blasto coral
1 Fuzzy yellow mushroom
1 Toxic Green Hammer (really neon yellow tho)
1 large Mexican Turbo Snail
1 Cleaner Wrass
1 Tomato Clown
1 yellow Tang
1 Sand Star
4 Hermits with red leggs
bush plant
red grape plant small piece
live sand and live rock
1 mystery crab that is very shy. Need to catch the brat so I can send him back to the Fish Store. He is neat looking but will bite small fish.

Eventually the quareentine tank will get more bare bottom.
I do weekly water changes on both tanks.

Below is a pic of the 75g taken from my tablet.

Thanks,
Yeah I really like the sunken ship look. Even the hair algea is giving the ship parts a more aged look.
I have both the front and back halves of the ship placed with the rock work to make the appearance of the being sunk for awhile.
Ofcourse would prefer the hair algea to die off.

Yeah it is a bummer about the fish.
I need to find where my camera is so I can try to get better pics.
Tablet is not the greatest but works in a pinch.

A few small changes on the DT.
The Orange Sponge on the big rock with the cleaner clams is more vibrant than before. The brown algea stuff is receding from this rock. Unfortunately it seems to be happy every where else.
Discovered that I have a mystery stow away crab living in the big rock.
He is very shy and darts for cover at the slightest movement or shadow.
So I now have 1 mystery crab in each tank. :(
Good news is the new corals added. I even added a small flat rock for my Sun Coral to sit on as the sand kept getting swept out from under him. He is now happy and even started to come out more.
New guys are 1 White Xenia, Green Zoa ( not sure what its name is), & a really pretty red flower type coral. All are small frag sizes.

These new picks are before water change day so the tank is not spruced up yet. As you can see the tank is still in that ugly brown algea phase. It does not look very nice.

I like ur tank Tina, we all start off like that. U are way better than me, get in to this hobby cuz I see they sell snowflake clowns for $25 each lol. compusive buying aint good

LOL
Understand the compulsive buying. When I went to the LFS for just a flat rock for my Sun Coral I ended up with the 3 new corals.

Did pick up a couple of magnetic algea glass scrapers. Medium for the DT tank and a small for the quarentine tank. Really wish I would of got these sooner. They are sooo much easier to use than the scrap stick thingy.

Tommorrow is water change day so both tanks will be spruced up a bit. :)

Here is a pic of the 29g quarentine tank.

The cleaner wrass is hard to catch as he is a hyper fast fish. Managed to get a pic of him below.

One thing I seem to really good at growing is algea. I think I got the algea miracle thumb in my starter kit. :p

Atleast it is the purple algea in the quarentine tank. It is nicer than the ugly brown stuff.

Hoping these guys continue to thrive so they can make it to the main tank.

Ok, here is a much better view of the tank. It got cleaned up today so the water is a tad cloudy from the sand being stirred up.

It looks so much nicer without all that brown stuff.
Gave the filter canister a good cleaning too. It really needed it. On top of the bio carbon that I changed out, I also add the media for Nitrates that is supposed to help with these. Figured would try it out to see if it helps reduce algea.
