Tinkering with new camera

I don’t blog a whole bunch because what can I possibly tell a bunch of experts. But I do get on here and read a lot of great info. The amount of knowledge on this group is sometimes a big overwhelming. That said I’ve picked up a great amount knowledge from you guys and just want to say thanks.

Recently I’ve picked up a camera for the first time ever and bought a used lens from local CL. Not trying to become an expert photographer but want to be able to properly show my progress on what I feel has been successful reef keeping for me. Feed back is greatly appreciated. Here are a few pics.

Nice! Looks like the new camera takes nice pics. Tank looks nice too!

You should start a build thread so we can all track your "new" tank progress, and add pics with that nice new camera!

Also curious what type of camera? Special lens?

Thank you! I think I will start a build thread sounds fun. the camera is a cannon rebel I took from my sister but the lens I picked up thru CL is a 100mm macro. I'm very happy with it.

I am looking to buy a Camera also. Let me ask you a few things.

Are u place the lens in the water or not?
How much is the distance between the lens and the corals you Want to take a photo?

I purchased a camera port from Avast marine. like this one.


this allows me to get a bit closer and more clear shot at the coral. I'm no good at trying to take pics thru the glass, its a little more difficult for me

Pics look good overall. If I were to offer any advice I'd say that I would try reducing the exposure slightly (probably by increasing shutter speed or using a higher f stop). This will help bring out the detail in the very brightly lit areas of your photos (usually the tips of acros for instance). Also, play around with the custom white balance settings to get a more natural look. Your photos have a slight blue hue to them and need to be "warmed up" a little.
