I have sooooo many of these on one of my tanks. Are there any drawbacks to them? Would a harlequin shrimp control their numbers?

yes, the Harlequin will dine on them. Some species of the stars will eat corals, keep an eye on them.

Some are herbivores, some will dine on corals, just depends on what species you have. If they are not bothering you, then great. they will reproduce tho to great numbers if not controlled.

I have tons of them with no problems the ones i had big problem are the asterinas tiny green starfish
They ate all my nice zoas

The brittle stars are fine, its certain kinds of the asterenas that may eat coral. Eventually though, the mini brittle stars should reach some level of equilibrium with in your system based on food supply. I have hundreds of them in my 54 gallon and you can see all their little arms waving from within the zoo colonies. They dont bother them though. I actually saw someone once selling them on ebay for like $20 for 10 of them.

Brittle stars are a fine addition to any reef tank.

The mini white starfish called asterinas are not recommended.

No, a Harlequin shrimp will not eat Mini Brittle Starfish. Harlequin eat "Tube footed" animals, such as regular starfish and sea cucumbers and Urchins. Brittle Starfish are not "tube footed" starfish.

Tiny brittle stars are not a problem... If there are too many it could mean you are overfeeding your tank.
