what are these little hard bubble things in my tank?!?

I’m fighting some algae right now. Going to do a big water change Sunday and another probably on Wednesday.

Hard to really see, are they green. Could be bubble algea

Turned the whites up. Looks green. They are hard and you can pop them

That is the dreaded bubble algae. Get rid of it completely. I would take the rock out before it spreads any further.
I've been dealing with this stuff for 2 years. You don't want it to spread.
Popping them releases spores that create more.

Also, please tell me this is just a dead zoa and not aptasia

Oh wonderful... ;Facepalm

Green bubble algea. Don’t pop them, even though it sounds fun:). If you can take the rock, or sand out and scrape them off. I had great success with green emerald crabs. They cleaned a heavily covered tank with them. It is hit or miss.

There are a few other methods I can’t remember

If it’s on rock that you can’t remove, I scrape it out of the cracks with a scalpel then my wife chases it with a net. I’m also using Vibrant and it’s helping but very slowly.

So what causes aiptasia? I haven’t seen any in my tank since I started and haven’t added any new coral or fish or anything.

Bubble Algae is a PIA! I have been trying to get rid of this crud for a couple years now. Still find it in my tank!

One method to remove bubble algae that I learned from someplace before R2R is to make a siphon with airline tubing with a length of rigid 1/8' tubing on the end. Turn off all the pumps, start the siphon, and then use it to dislodge the algae best as you can without popping them. If any do pop then the siphon will carry the spores out of the tank. Obviously, toss the water when done. It worked for me.
