Tiny funny reef on budget

I think there polyp length is based off lighting my 2 never get longer than 1-2~ inches. But I could be wrong.

What would you use instead of GSP? It shouldn't be tall, because there is not much room left :)

I would probably put something completely inappropriate that would end up dead. Seriously, I'm not knowledgeable enough to give a good answer.

However, if it would work I would think of using a micro like the frag below.

But like I said, you are light years ahead of what I am capable of.

The tank is one month old :)

Turned on lighting just a week ago. And here are diatoms, just in time :)

The tank is doing all right and looks awesome. My glass shrimp is still alive :) and seems happy. Freshwater pump works great, it's powerful enough to shuffle substrate :)

It turns out that I've used too small heatsink for my DIY LED module. It heats up way more that I've expected and needs a fan for cooling :( Well, I will work something out.

By the way, I haven't tested water yet. Not a single vital test including salinity :) Things are going as planned, it seems unnecessary. I just know what's going on. I hope :)

5 weeks.

Diatoms are blooming, green algae spreads out and GHA is going to rule this world :) So far my tank looks like post-apocalyptic zombie movie :)

That's why this guy has been invited to my CUC team :)

I've bought it as a trochus, but it's definitely not :) I'd say it's astraea. They eat the same stuff, so it doesn't really matter for me.

Here is how I see the tank now :)

Cast:
  • The Hero - Astraea sp. snail
  • Fearless dog - Palaemon elegans shrimp
Stay tuned :)

It seems that my tank is ready for starter corals. Diatoms are not expanding anymore, green film algae is under control. So, where is the best place for that $100 Acro, huh?.. :):p

I don't care for GHA bloom because I will handle it one way or another. It just looks ugly but won't harm anyone. The easiest solution is to add Emerald crab (Mithraculus sculptus) to CUC, but overloading a 1.5g tank will make things even worse. Most likely, I'll be removing GHA manually for a while.

What bothers me, is that GHA is growing from sandbed, but not from the main rock. If my sandbed (crushed coral) is leaching phosphates, I might be in some trouble... for a while :)

Anyway, I've cleaned the tank and made a big water change (90% or so). That's what I was going to do before adding first corals to the tank, stay tuned :)
