I have had both of my BTAs split this month. This RBTA has never really settled in . I've had him 9 months and he has moved around a bunch until settling on this rock on the far end of the tank. Just the other day I was saying how he hasn't moved in a while and he looked good. No changes in the tank other than switching from kalk to a doser. @cromag08 what do you think? Oh yeah I started Vibrant 3 weeks ago also. Pic in next comment.

Just snapped this. One is the size of a nickel, the other a quarter

I have noticed this in my rainbows. For some reason they keep splitting. Now I have 3 and the last split was in August. Stress may be a factor?

Even scientists don't know why they split. I personally think they're trying to dominate the world.

The original I had for over a year with no splits then bam.. splitting. It all started when I moved to the 75g.

My buddy has one 15 inches across. He got it as a baby 2 years ago and fed it well. He can't get it to split to save his life. He's going to try to move it to another tank to see if a change in environment will procure a split.

Earlier this month my green BTA split. So I guess they are trying to take over the world one tank at a time.

My deal is how do I get them off the rock w/o damaging their foot. I've tried pointing a small powerhead at its foot for a half hour w/ no luck.

I had mine split several times and take over one side of the tank. They were quite stubborn about moving so I had to remove them manually. I took the rock out and hung them upside down over a bucket with the tips touching water. I only had to help one let go with a plastic knife slowly prying it off the rock. They all recovered by the next day and were sold to the LFS.

How many minutes did you hold them upside down before they let go? These are on a rock that can easily be removed.

some let go pretty quickly but others held on for quite a while. Maybe 45 minutes or so. One never let go and I gently peeled back his foot using a plastic knife.

try to get under the basal disc with a credit card.

It works if you can get under the basal disc and have access to the entire thing. if it's planted in a crevice or hole you'll need to break the rock.

I'm done that before when they're on the glass but not when they are on a rock

I had same thing just happen last month.

My nem was 12". And never moved, even after a house move, I Moved the tank into another room to remodel and split. I think stress, survival mode.

Ya thats what I am thinking.. stress. I have a bucket of salt on the way and 45 gallons of water ready. First change for this tank.
