Getting a Goby and pistol shrimp pair. Do you have any suggestions how to make this better for them?

How big is the tank? How many pounds of rock do you have? I prefer to make sure my rocks are sitting directly on the bottom of the tank with no sand under them. That way when the shrimp starts to dig around it does not cause any rock collapsing.

I’ve heard the sand tip before and I’ll do that, I was wondering more about if/how to make better caves

The Tiger pistol shrimp loves a deep sandbed. Mine has moved a lot of sand from other parts of the tank to the burrow. So the tip is to add more sand. I also suggest you add small pieces of rock (less than an inch) for the shrimp to use in building. I have added non-floating pieces of Seachem Matrix, and the shrimp loves them. It will also use empty snail shells.

Regarding the rocks: They will find a spot, but I cannot tell from the picture if the rock has little cave-like openings or crevices. They look pretty solid, which may not be ideal. Rock like this might work better (Marco rock):

is that your tank? The rocks look like regular rocks, will need reef rocks. These shrimp and gobies like to hide, it makes them feel safe, but in the pic looks like not much rock. Also ensure the tank has flow and is properly oxiginated.
