So I think I finally found a tank I want. Its been up an running for over a year. Tank is about 40 minutes away and is a 60g cube. Ive moved plenty of empty tanks but never one thats running. Current plan is to get a couple 5 gallon hd buckets with lids, seller has a large tub as well. Plan to put all the rock in buckets submerged, corals in another bucket and the couple fish in another. Should I try to leave and inch or two of water in the tank to keep the sand submerged? When I get home plan to put everything in a large tub with a heater/powerhead till I get the tank set back up. I already have an rodi from my last tank so I can premake some water. Anything Im missing or should do?

I've written out long winded ways to do this (from experience) a few times. Someone should sticky a "tank moving" post

Basis is pretty much have plenty of salt water made and ready at new location.
Rubbermaid bins to move rock
Buckets and bags for corals
Buckets for fish (throw a single rock per bucket in for hiding as theyll be stressed already)

Have new sand ready or scoop out all the sand and spend the time rinsing it with the hose to get it all cleaned out (rinse while stirring til water runs clear)

Replumb and reset up your rock work.

Oh and when taking tank down-pull the stand pipe from the overflow to drain the overflow box-BEFORE disconnecting the sump/plumbing.

sounds Good , but ditch the sand. Either throw it away and get new sand or rinse it until it’s not cloudy at all.

Your plan sounds good, but as others have said, take the sand out of the tank before moving it (I use a dust pan to get it all out). You can rinse and reuse it if you want, or just replace it
