Tips for quarantining a diamond goby so it won't starve?

I'm about to buy a diamond goby and have a QT tank ready to go with Copper Power at 2.5.

I'm worried the goby will starve in the meantime. Even if I provide it a dish of sand, there's no way to know if it'll eat mysis or any other foods, so I'm worried it'll starve in quarantine.

My DT is very established > 10 years so lots of critters to eat there. I was going to use some of that sand in a dish in QT (and adjust copper accordingly) but even that won't provide much food at all. Any suggestions?

Idk I’ve read diamond gobies are very hardy and rarely ever get issues I’d acclimate and drop him in the only sickness I know of is jumping on to the floor idk if there is a cure for that

Be sure to use silica or quartz sand, calcium sand will bind with the copper.
You can just sand the whole tank bottom. Then, just feed it diced mysids to get it going.
Be sure you don’t buy a thin one, playing catch up with its diet is tough.

Start with level 2.0 as they can be touchy. As they are carnivorous, feed them mysis, chopped krill, brine shrimp and provide a bowl with fine sand. Monitor ammonia level with a reliable test kit and add air stone for added oxygen.

I also had 4 and currently have 0 so take my advice as a grain a sand but love them such cool fish will never buy again though lost all mine from jumping

(note that this is from experience) I got a goby a long time ago, read that they were hardy, didnt know how to QT one properly, had not added in fish for awhile, got one, stuck it in the tank, next day tank has velvet (i know that it was this fish) but i am sure that this is rare, but still would recommend QT as always

Wow that’s crazy yeah i read when I was so attached to these fish and saw how tuff these fish were to sicknesses probably cause they end up on floor faster then it can show on the fish btw I’m over these fish wasted too much money on them I’ll just buy snails that can’t jump lol

I used quartz sand and had good luck with feeding frozen mysis, was kind of picky at first but I just left the mysis to sit on the sand bed an also used some tiny mysis pellets an would sift where they landed. He now eats any and everything during regular feedings as well as always working on sifting an building bunkers at base of rocks. One of my favorite additions so far

Thanks for the replies. Picked up my dude today and cut out a new egg crate top to cover all the gaps in the QT as well as the solid clear plastic lid on top of the egg crate.

For my DT most of the top is fully covered but I have gaps at the back. Does anyone know the name of those flaps we use on the old school rimmed tanks that slot into the black frame horizontally?
