Hard to tell from the pic but it's nice and white and clean so that means growth to me. If it's growing algae on it it's burned tips, possibly from high alk.

So I am wondering this too, with birdsnest. How long should it take for the normal color to fill in , if it's growth? And what range would be considered high for ALK/KH to cause burnt tips?
