Just got my 1st rodi system and a giant thing of Red Sea pro. Before I messed up and tinker with it figured I'd ask some experts. I have 2 trash cans with screw lids. One for rodi water and another to mix in. How do I know how much rodi water is in the giant container or does it always end up being a guessing game the 1st time lol

Also haven't put any water in the rodi unit yet but I believe the directions said disconnect the di stage and fill it up then reconnect the di stage and run 2 gallons before keeping any water. Is that right? (Spectra 3stage 90 gallon)

I used a 1 gallon water jug to fill an empty 6 gallon Oceanic salt bucket one gallon at a time marking each gallon with a sharpie permanent marker. I the used the bucket to fill the Rubbermaid 5 gallons at a time marking each 5 gallon level.
Most fill the bucket or trashcan with water first then slowly add the salt using a measuring cup or some sort of scoop so you can estimate or measure the quantity. I mix it a little light on salt at first then adjust the salinity until I get it right. I never go by what the manufacturer says as it can vary a bit.

With a new unit or even when replacing filters I recommend flushing each filter in sequence so you don't contaminate or plug the next filter downstream. Remove the carbon block and the DI cartridge and set them aside. Disconnect the line between the carbon block and the RO membrane at the RO housing and stick this line in a sink or bucket. Turn the tap on and flush the sediment filter to remove any glues and binders from the manufacturing process for a minute or two. Add the carbon block and again flush it for a couple minutes to remove any fines or carbon dust.
Reinstall the line between the carbon and RO and make 3-5 gallons of RO only water while using your TDS meter to monitor the TDS. Once it reaches its lowest point, about 98% lower than the tap TDS you can install the DI cartridge. Make about 1/2 to 1 gallon of RO/DI to rinse up the resin and you should be ready to make 0 TDS water.
