Tips on Upgrading Tank

I'm about to upgrade from a 40 gallon tank to a 90 gallon tank. Does anyone have any tips that make this job easier? The tanks will be in the same room while upgrading so the move should not be too difficult. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas for me that might make this next tank unique or standout. Thanks.

In general...think about what can go wrong and plan for that to happen. Don't re-use sand unless you rinse it first (tap water is fine). If you're re-using rock I doubt you have to worry about ammonia but it's a good idea to do a few bigger water changes the first week or two. For standout tanks...I'm partial to any successfully stocked mature tank full of corals and a few healthy fish.

I did exactly what you are doing now. The secret is to get 90 setup and completely cycled before you start moving anything over. Once cycled, you can slowly move the fish over one at a time. Then after a few more weeks you can slowly move over the more stable corals.

I agree with this, get it set up, add the extra rock/media and get the tank cycled.

is the 90 where you want it? like, are you keeping both tanks in the same room, or tearing down the 40 once done?

edit: make sure the tank(s) are where you want them before finalizing anything.

If you want the tank to standout the first things that come to mine is nice controller board, maybe open cabinet/exposed sump area(need a nice looking sump and components coordinate the PVC/gate valve colors with other gear etc, mangroves or maybe nice macro growing in the sump etc…. )Wireless components like mp40s give clean appearance, rimless tank if that’s your preference, that’s what stands out to me. Throw in a nice matching towel to hang somewhere to top it all off.
