I have two MP-40's, the WES model. One is about a year old and the other is about 4 years old. The bearing on the older wetside is worn and Ecotech no longer carries them. My goal is to have an energy efficient tank that is as silent as possible. Currently, my tank is near silent when I turn off my MP's, and will likely be silent once I swap my Blueline 70 for the RD230 that's on my shelf.

I have an S. gigantea anemone (that is very slowly recovering from a
heater malfunction) two clams, and an algae farm. I'd like to keep what I have, add a couple more anemones, and the rest be SPS once I get my nutrients under control.

I have several options that I'm considering:
  1. Replace both with new style wetsides.
  2. Upgrade both with QD drivers and wetsides.
  3. Replace both with QD units.
  4. Replace both with WAV units.
  5. Get another two 6095's, but I'd also need to get an VDM because I'm out of variable ports.
  6. Any of those options, plus hooking up my Tunze 6095's.
My tank is a 150 deep dimension, so 36x36x27. I'm thinking that my best option to balance wants and budget is 2 and 5.

Thanks!

If you have an Apex, then the WAV kit gets my vote. I have owned MP10's, MP40's and now the WAV. Hands down prefer the WAV. Has the same flow capability of the MP40's, same modes as the Vortech stuff, even more quiet than the MP40 Quiet Drive, can be angled... so nice for back wall placement. Most of all, I like that I don't have a big goiter hanging on the outside of my tank. The WAVs blend right in with the black, back wall of my tank. Now if you have a clear back, blue etc, then they are obviously going to stand out some.

I like both #2 and #5 options.
I can't believe how quiet the QD's are and the upgrade kits are suppose to do just that.
I am also a Tunze fan. I use two 6055's on my 50 gallon tank.
