Tired of Pink sand

Who else hates that their sand always turns pink from the coralline algae? I mix it up every now and then but it always turns back to pink.

Lol thats why I run bare bottom and now my whole bottom is natural pink.

I've never had that happen. I turn my sand over every day with a wand connected to my manifold though. That's crazy

Everyday!? I probably move it around some maybe once a month or so.

I have a .5inch pvc tube to a vinal tube hooked up to a manifold. Open the valve and blow water into the sand. On my 125 it takes maybe 5 minutes but keeps the sand white. Not to hard in the grand scheme of reefing

Nope I want that pink. But I scrape anything and everything on the side walls. I want my favias to cover the bottom completely and also when the light reflect over that pink bottom I like that.

I also turn my sand regularly, once a week.

If its a tall tank could raise any corals and then raise the light so the par reaching the sand bed is lower.

That's actually impressive that its pink with no ugly algae! My diamond goby does an amazing job in my 150. Sand is always white but it's a trade off, he likes to dig under or spit sand on the low corals

I wanted to go BB also to have coral grow on it but I love my wrasses too much. I also scrape all glass panels, I feel it makes the tank so much nicer.

I tried a diamond goby twice. I couldn't stand always having stuff floating around. I thought it would eventually stop but after 6 months stuff was always floating.

Wow 6 months? Every so often, maybe a couple times a month, it stirs up the tank a little but nothing too bad. Your sand doesnt look that fine so I'm surprised

I originally had Fiji pink and it was really bad! I made the switch to the larger grain sand to see if that would help so I could keep the diamond goby. It never made much of a differnce. I would watch him sift the sand and it would be like a sand storm leaving his gills.

I clean my sand every week with my water change and my engineer goby gets what I can't. Sand stays nice and white.

I went with the Hawaiian Black Sand for that reason. Isn’t as fine as Fiji but the gobies and jawfish still enjoy it. Can hide detritus though so I vacuum it weekly during water changes. That manifold idea is neat. I’ve been considering adding a manifold to my return once I get a larger GPH return pump and I think that may be another outlet I’ll have to add!
