i just bought an 8oz bottle of alagaen pods. I have a 90 gallon tank and a trigger 36 sump. Would it be best to add them to the tank or fuge? Will they make it from the fuge to the main tank? The trigger has a foam filter block that I am not sure the pods will make it through. I started with dead rock and sand. How many pods woul need to be added to seed a tank my size. The bottle I bought says it has 300 pods. I'm guessing/hoping they're young because I can't see much in the bottle.

Does anyone know if they will make it from the sump through the sponge block and return pump into the tank? I have a ton in my refugium/chaeto. If not how can I get them onto the DT?

If bugs in the tank are a priority I would lose the sponge. Or remove it from time to time.

I'm wondering the same thing myself

I run only a sponge filter they make it through and use it as shelter and yes you loose some to the pump but they will reproduce in bot DT and sump but I would start in the tank (after lights out if you have fish so they don't eat most of them I added about 10000 pods last night to both DT and sump

It really depends on the porousness of the sponge block compared to the size of the pods. I discovered I had a thriving colony of amphipods in my refugium when I was cleaning my mechanical filtration (which is located after my fuge) and the pods were showing up dead on the foam. I ultimately removed the foam so the pods could make their way to the tank. My only mechanical filtration now is a nylon filter sock in my sump for the return line.

I'd put some in both and remove the sponge as it isn't needed after a fuge. But that's a whole other topic

The sponge is pretty porous. Its a great sound dampener. I'll have to look closely and see if I have any dead pods in the sponge.
