Looking for a new set of heaters. I use three 300watt Ehiem now but want to get away from the glass ones to make sure I never break one & have a current or copper problem.

Looking for suggestions on which Titanium ones you have used & like or dislike.

I would like them with controllers but will also plug into APEX. I don't trust the controller or Apex 100% so having a controller set to 79 & apex set to 78 gives me a fail safe.

Looking for good & bad reviews

Thanks
Andy

I would stick with Eheim heaters but if you still want to go with Titanium, Finnex seem to be the most popular.

I've personally had glass heaters break but never an Eheim. The lab grade glass is where it's at.

I have a 800 watt finnex controlled by my APEX, its awesome.

Thanks,

What size tank is it?

I saw both good & bad reviews on Finnex but the bad ones had to do with their controller not the heater itself.

I have 2 300w Finnex with controllers on my tank connected to my Apex. One is only used as a backup, I use the Apex to control them and then the Finnex controllers as backup in case of an issue with the Apex.

blkhwkz, that's how i have my Eheim's now. redundancy.

What size is your tank?

Red Sea Reefer XL425, 88 gallons and 24 gallons sump. With displacement it's 100 gallons of water.

Great, so it sounds like the finnex is not a bad brand name. The reviews are either really good, or bad. Extremes.

I'll order 3 of the 300's to replace my ehiems.

180 gallon display, 300 gallons total system water. My heater doesn't have the Finnex controller, I use the APEX with dual temperature probes, one in the sump and the other in the display. If either detects a problem the probe will shut off Via APEX control. A mistake many people make with using the high watt probes and APEX is not putting them on a relay control socket. In fact I would recommend putting any heater on a relay controlled socket.

If I where you I would get one 800 watt heater on a relay socket Of the APEX EB8 or EB4 that way your not taking up so many sockets. The price of one 800 is far less than 3 300s
