Very nice. It's kinda funny that I came across this thread because I'm in the process of setting up a buget frag tank as well. My goal is to not spend any money on equipment, but to just trade frags for everything. I have my skimmer, diy leds, tank, stand, and pump. Just need a heater and powerheads and I'll be ready to go. Nice build by the way and glad to hear that your leds survived the plung.

Been fighting the flu and now pneumonia all week. Today I risked the cold garage and did some work. I think I'm paying for it now.
Frag tank now has an Apex Jr. hooked up. 300W heater for this cold snap we're going through. Eshopps nano skimmer (working very well!) hob filter, hydor nano, random aquaeon power head, rock, egg crate, LED.
Total build cost is $85. Minus $50 since I'm only using one led.

So this all lasted about a month lol. Frag tank is going through some changes. Today I'm putting up a 40 breeder and moving the contents of the 20L to that. The 20L will become the sump here shortly. Tanks are not drilled.
I have a custom tank being built by Synergy Reef. That will become a display/stuff for sale tank and the 40 will be the grow tank. Subject to change in 30 days lol.

Update on the cost. I have $40 invested in the 40 breeder. Everything else I had laying around.

Budget buster coming lol. I honestly wouldn't say it's a budget buster at all.
I had a custom frag tank built by our pals at Synergy Reef Systems. It's not a tank, it's a work of art. Maybe I'm still excited by the way it turned out, but I believe the quality craftsmanship put into this tank shows.
The old 20 long and 40 breeder are somewhat decommissioned. 40 breeder is holding fish at the moment and may get turned into another frag tank.
The current frag tank is a custom Synergy Reef Systems 30x14x7 tank, with custom frag racks that fit the inside tank dimensions. The stand is built all out of 80/20 extruded aluminum. The sump is a Synergy Reef Systems SS-22. We use a Synergy SMR1000 reactor for carbon. All this is powered by a single Jebao DC3000 pump. The pump is split off to run the reactor as well.
I think this turned out perfect!
