So ive been in the hobby for 7 months. I want just 1 acro millepora frag to test. I'm wondering care level, best starter mille, and your DKH in your tank.
Nitrate 10 to 20
Phos 0.04 store
Cal 480
Alk 11
I use coral pro salt. Thanks!

the best c acro frag is the cheapest one you can get so it’s not a big loss if it doesn’t work out. I’m not aware of any milli being hardier than another.
for acros if i remember correctly, we usually run lower alkalinity around 7-8. maybe someone will chime in to confirm. probably want to lower the nitrai as well to 5-10.

Purple (mostly brown) stag horn. Cheap. Purple stylo also can be found cheap. It, to me anyway, hasn’t been as easy to keep happy as a staghorn though.

Millie loves more light, she is not considered easy to maintain. As said earlier, KH should be kept lower

Yup milli's are not beginner SPS.

Stick with acropora(green slimer comes to mind as an easier SPS), montipora, or stylophora.

Some tanks just can't grow certain corals, so keep that in mind. For instance I can keep any coral in the sea happy and growing(mostly), but acans come to my tank to die. No idea why either.

A few comments here already about ALK levels and thought I would expand on that a little. Natural saltwater runs about 7 dkh. It became fashionable to run higher levels with RS Pro and Instant Ocean RC and many reefers run these levels successfully. It does leave a smaller room for error though; without constant and sufficient nutrients your SPS can quickly burn.

All of my favorite SPS vendors run around 8ish dkh. Therefor I run about 8 as well, so that acclimation is easier. I do use a salt mix that runs high dkh (IORC is ~11) so when I do a WC I will skip the ALK dose for that evening. If it is a really large WC, I will even knock the dkh down with an acid.

Just food for thought. Red Sea Blue bucket mixes to 8 IIRC.

I would agree with this 99%. And only missing the 1% because I find my SPS and tank does better at NSW, but elevated nutrient levels. With daily live phytoplankton dosing I have 0 nuisance algae running elevated nutrient levels.

I run at:
7.5 DKH
420 CAL
1350 MAG
15 to 20 ppm nitrates
0.1 to 0.2 phosphates(above 0.2 and I take action, but try to keep it between .1 and .2)

I would reccomend a bali green slime ora blue tort, electric myagi tort, maybe a seriatipora, style or pocci if it's your first sps

But the bali green slimer aka acropora yongei has been aquacultured for years in captivity so I would go with this one for that reason as it can withstand just about any torture you have to dish out

The next step up would be an Oregon or cali blue tort aka acropora tortusaa for the same reason as it has been kept for years in many different condition

If you can keep these alive maybe try ora red planet or greeb or the higher end tort like the electric myagi

Then if you become successful with these
Move on to microlados, echinata type then millie then tenius

If you have a hard time with the "easy acros like torts or stags maybe it's a sign from Poseidon that it wasnt meant to be maybe try ur luck with a pocillipora(should be able to keep this alive and frag a few piepces) seriatopora or stylopora as these are more forgiving then the more fickle acroporidae... you can try branching montipora aswell such as digiata or setosa

If these die your tank wasnt ready and you need to work on the big three, water quality and finding out your daily uptake/ mineral depletion and figure out how to correct it

But I think you're ready for the slimer

Its slime time @GHOSTLY

Buy a tort too! :p

Your Alk is to high IMHO, get it down. Nitrates are elevated too. As for a good hardy milli, I have had great success with a Rainbow Milli. While it's not cheap it's tough. Another one is a Barbies MIlli, It has a darker teal look.
