Ok so I would like to add a controller to my system. I was first looking at the reef keeper as they are priced right and I've heard good things from a few people that own them.

Then I did some reading on the internet and a few articles/posts I've read suggests the Apex is superior, so I starting to sway in that direction.

Lately though I have been reading their forum on Reef Central and all I'm reading is problem after problem....

So what are your thoughts on the Apex system?

Never had a problem with my apex, would order one again with out question. it does everything I need and more. I have it dimming my LEDS running my 2 vortexs and of course all the other little stuff, lights, heat, cooler.

Never had a problem with mine either (except my fault when I tried to see if the main unit could swim!). It is FAR superior to the RKE and the customer service is worlds better. We get new modules and updates frequently that the RK line isn't getting. Definitely the better buy. The single best resource for the controller can be found here:

AquaController Apex - Reef Tank Automation

Can't agree more with the above posts. I've been a long time Nepture owner, and the Apex is nothing short of amazing. I have mine doing all the normal stuff, LEDs, running Vortechs wirelessly, and managing float switches for various things. I'd buy it again in a heartbeat if I had to do it all over.

Had my Apex for over a year. Mine is doing everything mentioned above. I have also added a water bug sensor and kalk top off switches.

I was in your spot till last month when I bought the APEX. I study both units and came to the conclusion that APEX was the way to go and I have not been disapointed, I got it becuase the wife and i ar going to Az for Christmas. I could not spend time away without worrying no I can go with the piece of mind that I can check it from my phone.

Well, I haven't used an Apex but I will give two thumbs down on Reefkeeper. I've had both a RKL and RKE and they're pretty much complete junk in my opinion. Their customer service doesn't exist...

mine emailed me when on vacation that temp went down I called a friend he found my return pump died and my heater is in my sump

I have had RKL and Apex Lite. Apex is far superior. Had nothing but problems with RKL. No problems with Apex.

I have the RKL with the net module, and so far have had no issues (over one year). The price was right when I got it, and so I added on the net module.

I would recommend the RKL if you want something super easy to program, but don't need much control. The price used to be right until the APEX Jr came out. That being said, even with my positive experience, I'd have to say go with the APEX!!!

wow thanks for all the responses...I think it will be the Apex. Hey Russter your in Thunder Bay?? Ontario? Do you know a reefer up there with a BIG tank named Andy?
