Hi I've just added a black box fish but am wondering whether it was a good idea or not as the more I've read up there's a chance it could release toxins and wipe out all other fish? I wasn't told this when I bought it only that there's a chance they could go for ,y shrimp once they're bigger?

Thanks I was thinking the same just wanted a bit of reassurance to be honest

I have a pair of frostbite clowns, cleaner wrasse (which I've read stresses them out), a pair of blennys, 3 tangs, goby and a potters angel plus 3 peppermint shrimps, cleaner shrimp an harlequin shrimp

Hmm...I've heard of plenty of people successfully keeping box fish with no issues. I think the level of risk is about the same as keeping a puffer, but maybe someone with more knowledge/experience about these guys will chime in.

Your tank isn't going to be harmed if it dies unless if you leave it in there for a long period of time to decompose or if your tank is too small for it in the 1st place, meaning there isn't enough water to dissipate the toxin. If in the event it were to perish just try to do a moderate water change after. Feed it often and keep your water clean and it should be a well-lasting fish.

I have heard of many people keeping them without issue just be careful nothing is picking on it and it is eating and still healthy and you should be fine. Biggest thing is if they die or on the brink of death get them out immediately.
