To copper or not to copper

IMG_1667.JPG well I just set up my qt again have a sailfin and purple tang. Last qt did not go to good due to heater malfunction so I threw that tank out swapped it with a 30 gallon had laying around purchased new apex 2016 on it so hope I'm off to a better start than last time. Question is to copper treat or not. I've read a lot just wanted to know what others have chosen and why
 
I think the best way to go if there are no spots is the tank transfer method coupled with prazipro.

Or CP With prazipro if you see spots or feel you'll have issues. Although some fish may not tolerate CP well.
 
Go with copper and prazipro, but remember not to mix both medication together

Yo can treat with prazipro for 2 weeks , repeat the dose every 3-5 days or when you make water change in QT
After that make water change and treat with copper for another 2 weeks.

for these tangs copper will not make any harm, however I'll skip it for copper sensitive fish
 
If TTM is out of the question, and you can't get CP, then copper is a fine option here. Neither of those fish should have an issue with it. Prazi is a must as well. Doing both copper and prazi will cover the diseases that we deal with the most but don't always show symptoms even if they are present.

What is cp
 
So I know there is a few different copper treatments available one being cupramine by seachem and another being coppersafe. Anyone use both and think one is better than the other. I like seachem because they make a test kit for their product. Coppersafe by fritz is just dose no need to test. Called coppersafe and was told there was no accurate aquarist test kit for their product the most accurate for theirs was hach test kit does not make since to me
 
I have used both and API test kit works for Coppersafe. I am using CP for my 2 current fish in QT, but for CP sensitive fish think I am going to stick with Coppersafe. Therapeutic range is larger.

Thank you for commenting on my thread I read daily ur threads and continue to grow in my knowledge based on the knowledge u have posted. Do u think it would be possible to get a base line based on API. After talking with the coppersafe support team he said just dose according to bottle and it should be therapeutic

Using the API test kit, I would get it close to 2.0 ppm and maintain that level. I've had a LFS test the API reading (on numerous occasions) against their Chemetrics test kit, and every time the API is within 0.5 ppm of that. Considering 1.5 ppm is still considered an acceptable therapeutic level for chelated copper and 2.5 ppm is still "safe" (according to my research); I feel 0.5 ppm is an acceptable margin of error.
