To Crab or not to Crab

I never really see my blue legs eating algae, I could be wrong but they just seem like scavengers to me. But with that being said they are a great part of the clean up crew, I have never had a problem with them. Emerald crabs are great. And they do eat algae in my tank, at a very fast rate too. I had a little patch of hair algae and the crabs just sat there all day eating it until it was gone. But emerald crabs can turn on your tank and be a problem. I had 5 in my 210, but one crab in particular wouldn't leave my maxima clam alone, so the clam would never open up. So I removed the one crab and now the other 4 are great citizens! So if you get emerald crabs keep a close eye on them

Well I just placed the order today to restock my cuc. Included were 10 blue legs, 5 red legs, and two emeralds. So I guess you could say I've got crabs. Lucky that is the only time I've had to say that.

I have blue legged, scarlet n maroon legged hermits. I must say u gotta have extra shells for them or they will grab a hold of the snails. That said they keep my tank clean n gives me something else to watch lol. Have u also ever think of a knobby starfish? The dont get big n do clean up algae pretty well. I have had mine for 2yrs with no problem. Also might want to look for filter feed to eat the algae spores as well. Maybe a filter feed cucumber or flame scallop?
