To Drill or not to Drill

Howdy,

I have a bottom drilled oceanic 58g

It has two holes for 1” bulkhead in the center back.
Presumably one for a dursa and one for a return.

Question is, do I drill a third hole to set up a Bernie, or do I rock the Dursa?

I’ve drilled 3 or 4 tanks with a better than average chance of a chip out, and there is always the outside chance of it being tempered…
Running pipes outside the tank isn’t an option.

So do I risk it, or is a Dursa setup good enough?

Use those existing holes for a Herbie and drill the back of the tank for the return. Exactly what I'm planning on my Deep Blue 60g cube.

Back drilling won’t work, as I can’t have external pipes.
Would have to be a bottom drill.

I bet the bottom of the tank will be tempered, I believe most manufacturers use it on the bottom panel at least.
Do the test to see if its tempered, because if it is then you have no other options than to go with Durso if anything on the back or sides isn't an option.

I use all my four holes in two corner overflows as drains

The return lines are pvc with locline up and over the back of the tank

I may have misread, but if there are already two holes I would not expect the bottom to be tempered.

The bottom of the tank is probably tempered and would shatter when you drill. Keep in mind that glass can be tempered after the holes are drilled and some companies choose to do so. Best bet is to get some polarized sunglasses and test before you try.
