So I usually use a filter pad in the small section right after my skimmer. I usually take it out and hose it clean every few days. I went on vacation recently and took it out so that my son wouldn't have to bother with cleaning it. When I came back after a week my corals looked very happy! I am now testing to see if it makes sense to not have it and I removed it. I will probably use it during my weekly water changes when I blow off the rocks and then remove it after I'm done. My question is "Do you use some type of filter material or not and why do you do it the way you do "? Thanks

I do use mine, but if your coral is happy, maybe they like what the filter pad was taking out. I use mine to catch large debris that others won't take but your's might of been taking smaller particles out. Or maybe they just like your son! haha

Lol! I have to ask him his secret!

I have used socks and now I shove a poly pad between baffles in the last section when I clean detritus in sump and doing tank maintenance. Got tired of the socks. My chaeto catches all that people remove with socks. And it is a natural filter for particles. And it grows at a absurd rate. I’ve only use it when you clean.
