To foam or not to foam ( underpad)

quick question.
I had to remove the thin foam pad from the bottom of my Nuvo 30 L after it became damaged.
Doing a new bare bottom tank and using the Nuvo stand for this tank.
Is it an absolute must to place a foam pad underneath the tank?
It will spoil the esthetics.
The surface is absolutely flat on the stand.

Does the glass rest on the surface or do you have a rim on the bottom of the tank? I always use foam in case.

Completely flat and the bottom lies on the surface no rim.
