So im looking at doing larger more frequent water changes...
Not sure if this can back fire on me or not.
Ill be doing a 25 gallon water change on about 110 -120 gallon system.

I think I want to do 3 a week is this a problem?

Reasoning is I have had a few issues in the last few monrhs with high nits/ phos the alk and cal swings and lastly temp swings. I feel that if I do lrg water changes for the next month I can flush the system and almost give the system a breath of fresh air?

Thoughts?

Thank you

IMO it may help with the high nitrates and phosphates but why not just fix the problems first? Why are you getting alk swings? Temp swings?

I do 25% water changes monthly on my 105 and it seems to work out great...I think the corals and fish appreciate the fresh influx of new saltwater...also keeps my trace elements in check, without having to add supplements.

Don't think you'll have any probems.

FWIW the best color and growth I've ever gotten was while doing 10% per day (that's 70% per week!), so if smaller changes are quicker or easier that's another tactic to consider bosting your weekly total.

Well nit and phos was from over feeding.
Vodka dosing and not there both almost not detectable

Alk and cal problems bc time broke in the on position and flooded the tank.
Problem solved hand dosing daily, about to switch to an apex time control for that.

Temp swings bc temp prob was not calibrated right.
Recalibrated it and added a second. Ac is on and so is a chiller for back up...

I know of a fellow reefer in sd who has an amazing sps tank that every day does a 1 gallon water change on his 110 tall.
Takes a milk jug pours in his pre measured salt, (does it by weight and puts it into baggies) adds rodi shakes it up for a few mins.
Takes another jug and sticks it in and takes out a gallon.
Then pours the fresh mixed water in.
I think he only lets the water mix for an hour before changing it out.

Maybe I will do 5 gallon water changes a day instead.

I did just do a 25 gallon water change took 10 mins. Besides the hour it took to mix the salt.

I JUST WANT HAPPY CORALS

5 gal is what I was doing too. And salt mix (Reef Crystals) should be ready in 5-20 minutes tops if you are waiting around an hour to use it. :)

When it's clear, it's ready...that's my standard. ;)

What are your nitrates at to begin with? You probably need to do a couple big ones first to lower then the little ones to maintain. My experience in the past with high nitrates is this..
If your nitrates are say 50ppm and u do a 50% wc then they're still around 25ppm etc...so small 5%-10% every couple days will take forever to drop them if they're getting high. Hope this helps.
