Hello, is the cause of this coating of algae due to much light or nutrients? What should I do to stop this. It’s covering a lot.

Hey @Tyguy35

Sorry about the delay

You have a fairly broad question. It could be lots of things with lots of answers.

Let’s start with basics if we may. Tank info helps. Size, length running, what’s in it, equipment, numbers, dosing etc.

A few key point would be water quality,, lights, water movement, clean up crew. Looks like an easy fix.

I am running a Red Sea max nano with the ai prime on the brs setting. Except I put the whites on 15 percent. I run the lights from 12-9 with an hour ramp up and down.
I have one sixline wrasse. I have 5 snails and 2 hermits 1 cleaner shrimp and a emerald crab. Tanks only going on 2 and half months. I don’t have the exact parameters at this moment as I am working.
I am using R/o water. I am not dosing anything.

Hi,

Sounds like a nice set up. CuC sounds good. Newer tank, may just be a part of the mature process.

Run thru your numbers, I would expect everything to be within range. Watch your Po4 and No3 levels by avoiding over feeding on a small tank.

A comprehensive cleaning/water change schedule should be all that’s needed.

I agree. New tank will have some nuisance algaes and is completely normal. Keep up your husbandry and it will go away on its own.
