The packaging says no need to rinse. I bought Carib sea arag-alive sand. Thanks for the info.

Not rinsing won't benefit us and its most common way agreed. 100% of live sand starts won't get rinsed, thought I'd make a thread stating how we see those impacts two years later in tank work threads

That thread is less about old tank rinses it's geared at starts sans silt since silt cannot help.

I didn't rinse my first bed it didn't kill anything. Thread is only about headache lessenings. I now rinse before, less headaches
 
Live sand I never rinsed as it will all clear up soon.
Dry sand or dirty sand yes rinse the heck out of it as your tank cycle need to be started by you anyways.
 
If you want to rinse, do it with saltwater. I'd use new batch of water but you can just use some water from your tank while doing a water change (just use some filter floss to make it a bit cleaner)
