To Skim Or Not To Skim ?

Shouldn't the skimmer be off while a tank is cycling ? I would think one would want to allow dissolved organics to remain in the water for the duration of the cycle.....

I followed the Dr Tims One-and-only recipe to cycle my tank - I think that recommends turning skimmer off for at least 48 hours of cycle. Beyond that, ok to switch on, but certainly appropriate to turn off initially to ensure the beneficial bacteria that you've just put in the tank don't immediately get pulled out again...
