I noticed today my toadstool was not looking great as far as having the little green things out. This happens every once in a while so I’m not worried about that. I am concerned of the top part seeming to split itself. it has grown considerably in the past few months. It was one circular piece but now it seems to be coming apart.

If this splits completely it’s just going to tumble around. Should I be worried? Does anyone know if this is something they do or if it is not doing well?

parameters are good
KH - 9 ish
temp - 79.4
PH - 8.2
low Nitrate
low for zero phosphate

thanks in advance

Yes, this is normal. You should attach the piece without the stalk to a rock and it will form its own stalk and start growing.

Its completely normal. Once it detaches you can place in container and let it attach to rubble or wedge into the scape and let it attach. Rubber band or toothpick is a another option to attach to rock or plug

Completely agree

Thank you JGT & sfin52!

What do you mean by using a rubber band or toothpick to attach to a plug?

I prefer sewing to the plug personally, where you literally use a needle to go through the toad at the base and loop string around the plug to attach it. Rubber banding is where you put a rubber band around the coral and plug to smash them together until the coral attaches and the toothpick method is skewering the coral onto the plug

Sort of with the tooth pick. You slide the toothpick through the base of the toadstool and tie the ends to a plug. The tooth picks can pull through the bottom of the leather if too tight. The rubber if too tight can cut the leather in half

This is correct, I guess I left too much to the imagination with the toothpick thing! Basically, just affix the baby toadstool to a plug/rubble firmly but not overly tightly and it will attach and start growing a stem then you’ll have a miniature version of your mother toadstool!

Another way to attach leathers is to prop up a leather on the sand bed and let it grab onto the sand. Once its attached to the sand pull it and glue to plug or rock. I have been successful with this method just not at 100 percent level. More like 80 percent.
